This year the August Féile marks the 20th Annivesary of Féile an Phobail. The August Féile will take place from the Sunday 3rd to Sunday the 10th of August 2008. Over the last 20 years the August Féile has become one of the most important festivals in Ireland. Féile an Phobail was set up in 1988, to showcase the talent of the local community of West Belfast on an international stage and to direct the political tension of that time into something more positive. Féile, since its inception, has continued to provide a broad range of both international and community events, which have been central in attracting tourists from around the world to celebrate with the local people. 

Féile an Phobail also aims to add to the regeneration of both the Belfast and local West Belfast economy. An Economic Impact Study in 2000 showed Féile contributed £3.3 million to the Belfast Economy and £1.3 million of this was in West Belfast over the ten days of August Féile.  Due to the increasing number of Féile events and the rise in the number of visitors, we expect these figures have also increased since the study was conducted in 2000.
