Joyce visit celebrated (04/12/2009)

The ‘Belfast Telegraph’ and Féile an Phobail last Saturday, 28th November, jointly celebrated the centenary of James Joyce’s only known visit to Belfast in 1909 in a talk at the Black Box in the Cathedral Arts Quarter. Historian Eamon Phoenix spoke about the cultural and political life of the city at that time and Dr Jörg Rademacher, a Joycean scholar, spoke about Joyce’s interest in early cinematography and the variety of references in his fiction to Belfast and Belfast figures.

The event was introduced by Danny Morrison, Chair, Féile an Phobail, and included a Q & A session afterwards.
